How do you change gender on Poptropica?

Guys can appear as girls, and girls as guys, using the Randomizer on Poptropica. NOTE :This change is not reversible, so once you do it, the only way to change gender again is to Randomize again. This will alter all of your avatar's physical appearance.

Hold down the CTRL key and the SHIFT key on your keyboard, and use the R key to switch through many dozens of possible appearances of BOTH genders.

NOTE : for the purpose of male-only or female-only ad games, this may not allow you to play those games. However, it usually affects the use of the Costumizer, and may force you to choose the opposite restroom on Super Power Island.

Because the Poptropica characters, and the story characters, can have any number of costumes (especially on Nabooti island*), there is one characteristic that can determine the gender of a character. That is the lips. Female interactive characters have the "pursed" or colored lips, wider in the middle.

The only way for a male character to get these lips (so far) was the Blue Fairy outfit from the Tinkerbell ad game, which strangely allowed parts of the female costume to be worn by males (necessary because the Pixie Dust reward was for both genders).

* Female users whose characters adopt scanty outfits will discover that the girls are uniformly wearing a "sports bra" under their tops.

Press "r" while holding down "Ctrl" and "Shift". On a mac, I would expect you would use the "Command" key instead of the "Ctrl" key. WARNING!! This will randomize EVERYTHING about your poptropican, including gender, eyelids, skin color, and all costumizable traits, so you should probably get costume collector before doing this. You may have to use this solution several times to make sure you become the opposite sex, with the same type of eyelids. Since randomizing will change hair and skin color, you may want to get your old colors back. Hair color can be changed easily if you have colorizer, but if you don't, you can always go to the cafe on 24 carrot island and change it there. Skin color can be changed with colorizer, or by clicking on the balloons on Early Poptropica Island. You can find the balloons in the "Poptropica Towers" part of town.

If you use the Randomizer (CTRL + SHIFT + R), it will irrevocably change your appearance, and could change your gender. No one has made any in-depth study of how this affects such things as saved costumes, past rewards, or the ability to obtain new costumes and rewards.
