i had this stairs glitch once were the stairs and fences looked like they had splinters sticking out of them after searching many websites i found that if you right click on the screen of you home screen on PC and go to the graphics centre if you find the button and restore factory setting it should do the trick it did for me.

This sound like an un-fixable glitch. I'm sorry you will have to remake the family, these glitches are very rare so it is unlikely you will have the glitch again, unless the computer really hates you.
