A) Using a world seed:

When creating a new world go into options and type a seed. You can also choose which world type you want and whether you want to generate structures or not.

B) Using wheat/melon/pumpkin seeds:

First craft a hoe. Then right click on dirt to make it farmland. Jumping on farmland will change it back to dirt. Right click with seeds to plant them. Having water and light nearby will help growth.
