The introduction is a very important part of the story. It should pull your reader in, not giving them a chance to put your book down. I pay a lot of attention to introductions, and if I don't like it I probably won't like the book. Give your reader a taste of how interesting your book can be, whether it be fiction or non-fiction.
Start out strong. Think of it like....... Fishing! You cast your line in and the bait is what brings in your fish (or in this case, reader). Once the reader is on the "hook" don't let them escape. Your introduction needs to be able to do all of that. It may sound very complicated and perplexing at first, but with practice introductions become very easy.
