In Lord of the Flies Why does Jack resent Piggy so much?

Initially Ralph views Piggy as an unwanted intrusion, who imposes himself on Ralph when Ralph wishes merely to be alone and revel in the joy of finding himself on a tropical island. As time passes Ralph begins to see beyond Piggy's fat, pompous attitude and disinclination to work and finds himself relying increasingly on Piggy's intelligence and the focus on rescue which Piggy has been able to retain. By the end of the book Ralph realises, perhaps too late, that Piggy was his only true friend.

Jack's attitude is dismissive. Jack has a very high opinion of his own worth and a very poor opinion of those he considers to be inferior, which amounts to virtually every other boy on the island with the except of Ralph, who he envies. Jack tells Piggy to shut up and also tells him rather curtly that he isn't wanted so I think you might also detect some resentment and dislike of Piggy.
