The only way to catch a squirrel is by setting up an animal trap. Not a bear trap, or any other painful trap (which are usually illegal), just a regular animal trap that does not harm the animal, but only traps it in its cage.

If you view the Related Link below, you can see a picture of the animal trap that I suggest you use if you want to catch a squirrel. Squirrels are very smart and clever creatures, as well as agile and quick, so the use of the animal trap cage is the only way to catch a squirrel.

It works like this: You put food on the metal plate in the cage and prop the door up to the top. The suggested food to feed squirrels are walnuts. When the squirrel steps on the cage to collect the food you put on the plate, the door unhinges itself from the top of the cage and springs down before the squirrel can escape backwards. However, there is only an 80% catch rate for squirrels, because the squirrel may just snatch the food from the plate without stepping on it or touching it.

Check your local area before attempting to catch a squirrel to see if it is legal to hunt squirrels.

I should say that everystate has hunting seasons for squirrels. In the state of Minnesota it's from mid sept to end of feburary. The reason is that squirrels have flees and other bugs you don't want. Check with your state

use your head...where would you shoot ANY living thing if you wanted it to die in one shot?...think hard now...what's the one part of the body that controls the whole body...it's something you clearly don't use very often...THE BRAIN!!!

Use a large Rat Trap or Trap it and drown it.
