Hornets can hunt in light as small as .01 lux.

What attracts a hornet to a light is when the light is out-of-place, like if it's hunting in .4 lux and suddenly the light around him shifts to 50 lux or something like that.

The hornet is not attracted to lights at a distance, as much as it is disoriented by them and so flies blindly toward them.

Depending on the brightness of the light, a hornet can be attracted from a football field away or more (or much less).

If you need light but don't want to be seen by hornets, cover the light in something red. Hornets can't see red light.

Can you fly the American flag at night without light?

Yes, you can fly the American flag at night without light, but it is generally recommended to have it properly illuminated if displayed after dark. According to the U.S. Flag Code, the flag should be displayed only from sunrise to sunset unless it is illuminated. Therefore, while it's permissible to fly it at night without light, it is not in accordance with the spirit of the Flag Code.
