A turtles claws arenormally in the back because they dig with there back legs and it is easier for them to dig with there back legs, like a dog. I have a turtle myself and have seen it use its claws before they are more like toes or fingers than claws. I could be mistaken because these are just my observations.

Why do loggerhead turtles have claws on their legs?

Loggerhead turtles have claws on their legs primarily for their development and survival during the early stages of life. The claws aid in digging out of their nests after hatching, allowing them to reach the surface and make their way to the ocean. While adult loggerheads do not use their claws for swimming, these adaptations are crucial for their initial journey to the sea. As they mature, their limbs evolve into flippers, which are more efficient for swimming.
