There are a number of differentt breeds of lion, each with its own particular physical characteristics. Within each of these groups, different individuals vary in size according to age, health, genetics, etc.

Unfortunately, due to these variables one can not say a lion is "X" feet tall, and to take an average of all recorded heights (lengths) would probably involve such a wide range of measurements that a single average point would be largely meaningless. I think the best way to answer the question "How big is a lion?" is simply, "Really, really frickin' big".

Having said that, I will admit to having seen a photograph of two lions on their hind legs fighting, while a "normal" sized man tried to stop the fight. Assuming the man to have been about 6 feet tall, the lions would have had to be 9 or 10 feet tall.
