Stingrays are fish. They are actually "cartilaginous" fish, related to sharks and are one of six rays sub groups in the order Myliobatiformes. As I understand it only four of the suborders actually have stings at the end of their tails. Lovely, gentle creatures ... we swim with them in here New Zealand. Just don't tread on them in the shallows ... their sharp tails hit so hard they can kill.
