well, I've heard that they actually shed their coat, but I'm not sure if they're supposed to do that DURING the winter, or after. One of mine has lost her whole entire backside's worth of hair, but i think that's mainly just because she's got cancer. :'(
my guinea pig is actually shedding a lot right now during the winter. I do not think that there is anything to bad with it. It may be a problem with diet but nothing to bad.

Think of it like wearing a coat all year round. are you going to wear a winter coat in summer? that's why they shed - and grow it back for winter.

Do you put it out on the grass in the summer ???? Or put it in a shed to run around in the winter??? If you don't this may be an option. Guinea pigs shouldn't be cooped up in a hutch and not be taken out. Please let it have a little freedom! The guinea pig will get very bored!!! Laura
