Why does your guinea pig stare at you?

I have had my guini pig for 1 month and the key to making friends is constant handeling for the first feew months, i wont lie that it can be frustrating trying to tame it but i have relized that the way to a guinea pigs heart is food and in my case carrot!try holding it and feeding him at the same time this will help him assosiate you with good things

Guinea pigs are prey animals, and it is hardwired in their behavior to watch out for predators and any signs of danger.

Although we (human caretakers) like to think of ourselves as friendly and benign creatures, small prey animals as guinea pigs don't have that same perceiving luxury.

It just means that you either startled it, or it isn't used to you yet.

To prevent this; walk up slowly to them, get to their level so you don't look as big, talk to them in a soothing tone, never grab them, let them sniff your finger and don't get annoyed if they run away.

To them you are this big scary animal that could eat them, and your walking toward them of course, if you don't do what i said early and they aren't used to you, they'll run away

from my experience when your guinea pig sees you, he might have been sleeping with its eyes open and when it hears you coming toward it, it gets scared and, by instinct, runs away.

They're probably scared or startled. It's just wild rabbit instincts. My rabbits do it too.

i don`t know much about Guinea Pigs,but if they stare at you,they might be scared,happy,or trying to dominate you.

Maybe he is not comfortable around you, let him time and gradually approach him
