My guinea pig licks me, too. I think that it could be the salt in our skin. Guinea pigs need salt, and you can buy salt licks for them at pet stores. They love them! Our guinea pigs prefer the non flavored salt licks. I think licking could also be a sign of affection. My guinea pig, Smorez (he's magical, by the way) will lick me as a sign of affection towards me. They do that to show that they love you. (:

∙ 12y agoOften guinea pigs will nibble or bite their owners as a way of communication. Yung guinea pigs will often bite or nibble because they are still learning and testing their limits. A guinea pig may also bite if being held improperly and they feel uncomfortable or scared. They may also nibble at you clothes if they are held too long as a way of letting you know they need a bathroom break.

∙ 14y agohe nibbles on you to show affection and keep petting him, or because you have something yummy on your hands, or because he wants you to STOP petting him. Guinea pigs are fickle. yes mine does that because i have something on my hands or sometimes he thinks my fingers are food and bites me but not hard

∙ 14y agoYou may have food on your hands, and so the guinea pig thinks it is being fed something - it will then try to eat said "food". Otherwise, animals like guinea pigs (and hamsters and rabbits) need to chew on solid objects to prevent their teeth overgrowing. The gnawing wears them down to a manageable and useful size.

∙ 11y agoIf a Guinea pig nibble your hand it can mean that it's being affectionate towards you, otherwise the guinea pig is just "testing" things - which is done by using their teeth.

If your guinea pigs seem to be fighting, don't put your hand in the cage to grab one out. They will bite you i you do this. Just find something to separate them with. (cardboard, wood, something hard, etc.) Other than that, guinea pigs are great pets.
