'Wei Wu wei' is the principle of doing through non-doing, and is a central feature of Taoist philosophies of life.
*The Tao, or the Way, is regarded as the most important facet of the universe. Its symbol is the ancient Chinese yin/yang symbol, the T'ai Ji Tu, although this symbol is much older than Taoism. The Tao is the ultimate Ground of Being, and the principle of order in the universe. The Tao is often compared to a secret river flowing through the landscape. *The heart of Taoism is the concept of wu wei, the art of inaction, or going with the flow. Extra Info *Religious Taoism developed a kind of spiritual alchemy aimed at attaining immortality.
The Zhou Dynasty of China succeeded the Shang Dynasty and preceded the Qin Dynasty. It was founded by King Wu, the second son of King Wen of Zhou, following an attack on the Shang leaders in 1048 B.C. which, according to Chinese legends, culminated in a decisive victory in the Battle of Muye. Traditionally, 1122 B.C. marked the founding date of the Zhou dynasty, but more recent evidence suggests a date of 1046 B.C. For a historical account, see The Cambridge History of Ancient China (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1999), 310-11.
