This is calculated by adding the torques created about the pivot point by the weight of each part of the stick, and the additional mass and moment arm. The shorter end of the stick plus the first weight will create a torque in one direction, and the rest of the stick creates a torque in the opposite direction.
The minimum mass necessary is 0.269 kg. This is at the 1 meter (100 cm) mark. If the mass is attached between the 36.5 cm and 100 cm, then a greater mass will be necessary.
