A boy named Stanley Yellnatts is put in a camp for criminal kids for stealing a pair of shoes, which he didn't actually steal. He gets to the camp and meets Zero. After many events in the camp, Stanley runs away to find Zero. Then they come back to the camp and find a chest with treasure in it that happens to belong to Stanley. The camp is shut down and Zero finds his mother.

When he finds Zero they then have to survive the dark, brown desert by eating whatever they can find, which includes onions, 'sploosh' and drinking rain water. After they survive the night they return back to CGL where they find Stanley's lawyer waiting for them, who decides that he has not been treated within the guidelines during his time there. He also asks if Zero can come with him, which in turn leads to the closure of Camp Green Lake.
