Best Answer

Advantages:

  • It allows for better quality data, as you restrict what data goes into a column or a table.
  • It allows for data to be linked between tables, using foreign key constraints

Disadvantages:

  • Takes a little longer to set up a table as the constraints need to be identified and added into the script.

I have used Oracle software for over 12 years, I actually love the database software.

Two disadvantages if I had to give two would be:

1. Price, the single most expensive Enterprise Database Software on the market (but for a reason, IMHO it is the best).

2. Bulky software bundles. Most installations (sometimes 5-10 on one server) have similar tree structures, all containing the same java/perl/etc files, scripts. Most of them have not been changed since 9i. It would probably benefit from a central file system maybe, that all Oracle homes could share.
