I have been on sertraline 50mg for three months following a bad bout of anxiety/depression after two recent deaths in my close family. The first few weeks taking it were really hard - I continually felt more anxious but relieved this with taking a low dose of pregabalin/Lyrica when necessary. After three weeks I felt better and then much better after seven weeks. I have reverted to my normal self and am driving, working and enjoying life again. Six visits to an analyst taught me relaxation techniques, and also got me thinking about ways to reduce stress in my normal life - "perfection" was often quoted - now I do the best I can and take lots of short cuts to make life easier for myself!

I have been advised to stay on Sertraline for six months ( I gave up the occasional pregabalin after three weeks on Sertraline) and expect to be weaned off it slowly in three months time. It has been a huge help to me and even if I have to be on it longer, am extremely grateful that I have my life back.

Benzodiazepines (benzos) have anxiolytic (ant-anxiety) properties. Anti-depressants are also used for the treatment of anxiety but benzos are a more direct treatment.
