Lenses From 35 mm Fitting Canon SLR . Absolutely! The only trouble I have had is with a 2X converter and a 400mm lens. It would not auto focus or stop down. I still got an OK photo of the moon. I migrated ALL my lenses successfully. I think film lenses work on digital. Digital do not work on film…. Why not? Due to the .625 smaller area covered by the lens. They will not even mount.. The answer above is right, but if you have any troubles with canon and canon lenses just feel free to contact Canon Support Team. No, Canon EOS uses a different type connection for its lenses and thus will now work with the "FD" lenses from the AE-1
All bayonet mount canon camera's in the past 30 years will accept an FD lens'. The AE 1 and later ones will accept the lens' but will only work on automatic if the lens has the A setting on the lens. The FD will not work on an auto focus.
Canon EF lenses that fit Canon EOS cameras will fit all Canon digital SLR bodies. Canon FD lenses that fit Canon SLR's made before 1987 will not fit any EOS or digital EOS camera body. It depends on which DSLR you have as to which lenses can be used.
Theres a bunch of comparison tests out there for these two models. Check more at http://alatest.com/canon_eos_400d_digital_rebel_xti/digital_slr_cameras/expert_reviews/pe-34087417,248/ Many expert review sources claim the EOS 400D to have better color accuracy and high ISO dynamic range, where as… the D80 has better autofocus and build quality. I would consider what existing equipment you already have and what you aim to do with the camera long term. Both have the capacity to be more than just an entry SLR and especially the D80 can be an appropriate backup body for most prosumers out there. (MORE)
The Canon Rebel film bodies use the EF mount lenses. All modern Canon EOS cameras, including all digital EOS cameras will also accept EF mount lense. Cameras with the 1.3 or no crop feature will not accept the EF-S lenses. The lens mounts deeper than the mirror will tolerate. (MORE)

All Canon DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras can use all Canon EF (or independent manufacturer equivalent) lenses made for film or digital cameras.. Most Canon DSLR's have an APS-C sensor that measures 22.2 x 14.8mm. (This is smaller than the 36 x 24mm image size on 35mm film.) In 2003, Canon introduced EF-S lenses that were optimized for the APS-C sensor size. The EF-S lenses will only fit on Canon 20D, 30D, 40D, and 50D cameras (as of 2008) and all Canon Digital Rebel cameras. (MORE)

Yes, you can use film Canon lenses on a DSLR Canon. However, if you lenses are really old (made before 1987), they might not fit. But I'd try them anyway. My father had an old Canon 35MM and I was able to use his lenses just fine on my new Canon DSLR. Here's a good rule of thumb to remember: You… can typically use film lenses on digital cameras, but not vice versa. Hope this helps. (MORE)

Yes, with the right mount adapter. Canon EF lenses were introduced in 1987 for Canon's new EOS auto-focus cameras. All EF lenses fit all EOS film and digital cameras. Some Canon DSLR cameras, such as the digital Rebels, have an APS-size (smaller) sensor. These cameras can use EF lenses with full a…utomation, and can also use the EF-S lenses designed especially for them. The advantage of EF-S lenses is that they are more compact than EF lenses. The EF-S lenses will only work on some Canon DSLR bodies, so compatibility should be determined before purchasing an EF-S lens. (MORE)
