Shintoism is really a form of ancestor worship and as such it is not concerned with gods, either multiple or single, however, prior to WW II the Emperor of Japan was regarded as a god and as a descendant of the sun god, which makes at least two gods. When Emperor Hirohito surrendered, he also admitted that he was not really a god. But there are still ancestors to worship.
