One can be of any age to participate in Lent. Catholics (at least 14 years old) in the United States are obliged to abstain from the eating of meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays during the season of Lent. Catholics (from 18 to 60 years old) are also obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday. Self-imposed observance of fasting on all weekdays of Lent is strongly recommended. This is where people also give up chocolate, sarcasm, or something else for Lent.
Children are allowed to give up their sinfulness, when they reach 9, they have their first communion. On the contrary,Children are not allowed to give something especially fasting, but only if their age reach 14,then they must give something for their own sake.
You are never too young to start Lent; if youa re talking about fasting ( no food between meals and only one full meal) then it is age 14 when that is required on ash Wednesday and Good Friday as a minimum.

The specific directions for fast and abstinence are in section III of Paenitemini, at the link below. Abstinence is required of all who have completed their 14th year. (That is abstaining from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays) Fasting is required of those who have completed their 21st year and have not turned 60 yet. Fasting requires only one full meal in a day. Fasting is required only on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. But, yes, you are never to young to enter into the spirit of Lent.i don't think you ever stop fasting for lent. i think as long as you believe in it, you fast.
It's said that the obligatory age for fasting is 18 - 60 years that too not for the entire season of Lent, just for Ash Wednesday and Good FRIDAY.
Except for meat on Fridays and Ash Wednesday (14 and older) you are not required to give up anything during Lent. It is just a suggestion.
