ISOTOPES!!!!

Do NOT confuse with Allotropes, which is the same element exhibiting different physical characteristis.

Every element exhibits isotopes. However taking hydrogen gas, it has three isotopes.

H-1 ; protium ; 1 proton , 1 electron 0 neutrons ; The commonest form

H-2 ; deuterium ; 1 proton, 1 electron , 1 neutrons ; heavy hydrogen

H-3 ; tritium ; 1 proton, 1 eletron, 2 neutrons ; radio-active.

Notice in each case , the number of protonsn and electrons does NOT vary, but the number of neutrons does vary.

Isotopes.

For instance, Carbon by convention has 12 components to it's nucleus (6 protons with a positive charge, and 6 neutrons without any charge) but carbon compounds also contain a radioactive isotope called carbon 14 which has an additional 2 Neutrons. Carbon 14 percentages is what is used in radiometric dating (carbon dating) to give some idea how old a specimen might be.

Atoms of the same element that have different numbers of neutrons are called isotopes. An isotope is known by its mass number, which is the sum of the protons and neutrons in its nucleus.

Neutral atoms of the same element can differ in their number of what?

Neutrons. If the differ in electrons they are not neutral and if they differ in protons then they are no longer the same element as the number of protons determines the name of the element.

Atoms of the same element that differ in number of neutrons?

isotopes

What are element that differ in the number of neutrons known as?

Atoms of the same element that differ in the number of neutrons they contain are known as isotopes.

What are atoms of the same element but differ in number of neutrons?

They are called isotopes.

What atoms of the same element differ in the number of neutrons?

They are called isotopes.

What is a isotope apex?

Atoms of the same element that differ in number of neutrons

Are isotopes are atoms of an element that differ in there number of neutrons?

Yes, isotopes of the same element would have differed numbers of neutrons.

What is atoms of the same element that differ in the number of neutrons but have the same number of protons?

Isotopes.

What does it mean when the neutrons of an atom are all different?

The number of neutrons present in atoms of an element may differ. Atoms of an element which have different numbers of neutrons are called isotopes. These differ in mass but have the same chemistry. All of the neutrons in the nucleus of an atom are the same.

Do all the atoms of a particular elements have the same number of neutrons?

No, the isotopes of a single element differ in the no. of neutrons

How do the atoms of one element differ from those of another element?

Atoms of the same element differ in the number of neutrons in their nuclei. All atoms of a given element have the same number of protons, of course. The number of protons in a nucleus determines which element the atom is. But the number of neutrons can vary, and these different "versions" of a given element are called isotopes of that element. See the related question, which is linked below.

All Atoms Of An Element Are Exactly?

All atoms of the same element are not identical. The atoms of same element with different number of neutrons are called as isotopes. Although, the number of protons and electrons are same in every atom.
