Coca-Cola leaves the penny bright and shiny.
Coke does this by corroding the copper oxide layer that forms naturally through exposure to the air over the penny's copper plating. While the oxide layer is stable and prevents further reaction of the copper plating, it obscures the shiny copper plating to give the penny a darker, dull appearance.
Coke is able to remove the oxide layer on pennies because of its acidity (Coke has a pH of approximately 2.5, similar to lemon juice). Acidity gives it corrosive properties. To be more specific (and a tad uncertain), the phosphoric acid in Coca-Cola likely reacts with the copper oxide layer to remove it.
Yes it can cause of the acid in it, it also can remove rust from your bumper, pour on the rust spot and then use tin foil to rub it in. Then again, plain carbonated water will do the same.
The penny in a few minutes will be clean an shiny. If you leave the penny to long it starts to eat the metal. Can you imagine what it can do to your teeth and stomach then!
the coke will make the penny go shiny because of the phosphoric acid that is in the coke will eat the oxide coat on the penny that has build up in time
It reduces the amount of rubbish on the surface of the penny making it easier to read, and less revolting at sight.
You should just soak a PENNY in CoCA CoLA.
No..if hat was true. People who drank tons of water a day would have no teeth!!!
coca-cola has a high acidic content, and prolonged exposure can erode the enamel on the teeth
Coca-Cola does not have any effect on amalgam. However, it does contain ingredients that can erode the enamel on your teeth if you do not brush them regularly.
i did a science project on it and all it did to the penny was stain it but i dont know because i just let it sit in the coca cola but maybe if you scrubed it with something maybe be but i tested it and it just stained it
It would be Coca Cola.
Sugar reaches the copper and they form a physical change
