My parents just saw one next to our house in Creston, MT. I don't know whether it was a Mountain lion or a Panther or a Jaguar but it was a huge black cat. And no, it wasn't a baby housecat either. It was a very BIG boy!

2nd Answerer says: Yes, but Mountain lions may be up to nine feet long, from nose to tail-tip. What your parents MAY have seen was a black Lynx or black Bobcat. This is not unusual. Keep pets and small children close when out-of-doors.

Game wardens say that "Never in the history of the United States has there ever been, in captivity or in the wild, a documented black mountain lion".Tens of thousands of mountain lions have been killed in the 100 or so years, and never a black one was taken. Black panthers are Black leopards. Some people incorrectly call a Black Jaguar a panther. Black Jaguars you can see the spotted pattern under the black. The term Panther is scientifically wrong and is used by laymen for any big black cat.

Mountain lion, Puma and cougar is the same animal.

But there has never been a document black North American Mountain lion but it is possible. There have been sightings by people not professionals so they are questionable. Most likely it was either a big black dog or an escaped pet black leopard or black ocelot or jaguarundi or in wild Jaguar areas where Jaguars are seen.

It is illegal in the US to keep exotic animals (without permits) and has been for a while. About 30 years ago I saw a woman walking down the street with a Ocelot on a leash, beautiful animal, about the height of a medium to large dog.

FYI mountains are more closely related to the house cat than to any other big cat live today! Jaguars and leopards had a distance relative about 3 million years ago that came to the Americas via land bridge.

Would a tiger or lion attack a black bear?

Only in extreme circumstances would a tiger or the lion would attack the black bear. A tiger or a lion is both capable of killing a black bear, but it would take a long time to do so. However, a black bear is more likely to kill a lion or a tiger, but would get serious injuries (to kill the lion) or a long time ( to kill the tiger) while doing so.

Who will win in a fight between a lioness a lion and a large black bear?

A lot of people will say lion , however they are wrong because they are just stupid lion fans that know nothing about a tiger's advantages. The tiger will win because it is stronger! heavier, more agile, bigger, has longer canines, is a better fighter, is smarter, and is not lazy and waits for females to hunt. Tigers rule and lions suck
