There is no definitive laboratory test for lupus. A diagnosis of lupus is based on:

1. Medical history

2. Symptoms

3. A variety of tests

4. Process of elimination

Since these things cannot be done on a fetus, the answer is no, lupus cannot be detected prenatally.

No because there is no definitive test for lupus. Even if a person is genetically predisposed to develop lupus, they might not ever develop it. There are numerous cases of identical twins where one develops lupus and the other does not. Even if you could diagnosis the possibility of developing lupus in a fetus, that is no guarantee that the disease will develop.
