I'm notsure if it was the direct cause, but my m-i-l had a tumor on her pituitary gland, and when it was removed, she had significant memory loss. She had to go through cognitive therapy, and she still has problems with memory (and also following directions.) Her husband has to leave her notes a lot because she forgets appointments or instructions.
