Most people would be satisfied enough in having been acquitted of a crime they were accused of committing. You would want to check with your state laws, but probably not. It depends how serious the crime. If you were charged with murder, stalking, rape these are very serious crimes and if innocent this could still ruin the rest of your life. If it's stealing, dealing drugs or having drugs on you and you are innocent this is also a black mark on your character. By all means seek a lawyer's advice. Clear your name if it's important enough to you. There are many cases where someone has been accused of a crime they didn't commit and received compensation.

Yes, it happens all the time.

Just to add to this answer. The very harsh reality is that you are presumed guilty once accused. One of the biggest lies perpetrated on the citizens of America is that you are "Innocent until Proven Guilty in a court of law". Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, you can be accused of felony assault, a warrant for your arrest is issued, you are cuffed, sent to jail and may not have a clue or even be told why you are being arrested until you go before the magistrate. You are disrespected in every sense of the word. No one cares if you are guilty or innocent actually. Every now and then, a bad guy is sent to prison but many more are simply caught in the "game". The game is about money. You pay to get bailed out or you sit in jail and wait for your court appointed lawyer and your "Right to a Speedy Trial" which could be a couple years later in some cases. The DA holds the power and is often times extremely young and inexperienced. He/She is looking to cut their teeth on different types of cases. You may pay thousands of dollars for an attorney that most likely will not earn what you have paid. Your case will stretch for a year or two. In the end (provided your case is relatively simple in nature) you may find that the prosecution has no case and are willing to drop the charges against you,,,,,,,but for a price! Now a logical thinking person would say to themselves " ok, I am NOT guilty of what I stand accused of, I'm not paying anything just to have the charges dropped"! Besides, if you have no case and are willing to drop the charges,,,,,isn't that extortion? There is this constant struggle of threats (sending you back to jail) and wearing you down over time. Judges push both sides to make a deal and move on. They don't want their dockets to be so full. So to answer the question,,,If you are accused, in the TRUE EYES of our system, you are guilty until you either go to prison or buy your way out. I might also mention that the "victim" may be the perpetrator instead. One who by law, is given sole access to everything you have, steals it all, destroys your home and rides off into the sunset leaving you homeless and penniless all with the laws blessing,,,,,until you find a judge who asks the question,"Who's home is it"? Is his name on it? Did you own it before you got married? How long were you married? Answer, 6 months,,,,judges response " 6 MONTHS ?! So you see,,,at the end of the day, you dont need to be "convicted" to be guilty. You just had the misfortune of getting thrown into this very bad and dangerous legal system that we are so proud of in this country
