Yes. A person can give you herpes without an outbreak. It is called "shedding of te virus". You can have herpes with no symptoms at all. To verify you have herpes you would need a herpes select blood test. This is only good 16 weeks after exposure.

It's possible but you're less likely to pass herpes when you're in between break outs.

You can pass it around the time a break out is starting or healing. When you don't have any signs or symptoms you're less likely to pass it on. If you're worried about it then you can always take antiviral medication which can help suppress the virus and make you less likely to pass it in between break outs.

Absolutely. Herpes, like all viral infections can be either active or dormant in your body.

When Herpes is active you will have symptoms. When Herpes is dormant you are carrying the virus but are not showing any symptoms. Viruses can cycle between stages multiple times, and are most often spread during their dormant stages.

If you think you have herpes or any other viral infection or STD you should get tested.

If you don't have health insurance there are low cost testing options available.

Yes there is a blood test for it but if you test too early after being exposed to herpes you can get false results. Wait at least 6-8 weeks after being exposed to get the blood test done.

Discuss The Development of Herpes Symptoms with Your Doctor?

Due to the nature of genital herpes, this disease can often be difficult to diagnose. Visiting your doctor as soon as herpes symptoms reveal themselves makes it much more likely that you will receive an accurate initial diagnosis. Typical herpes symptoms include the development of red, itchy sores on the penis, vulva or anus. These sores will often rupture and leave a shallow well called a lesion. While some individuals experience no symptoms at all, others are likely to suffer from the development of one or more lesions, headaches, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes and a host of other discomforts. Speaking with your doctor early about any suspicious symptoms that you may be experiencing is essential for protecting yourself and your sexual partners.
