You can, in fact, put an operating system on the PlayStation 3. However, XP and Vista are out of the question. You can install one of several Linux distros, such as Yellow Dog, Fedora, OpenSUSE, or Debian. Just download the PowerPC or PS3 CD from the distro's website, burn it, and choose the "Install Other OS" option in the Settings menu.
