Stick finds the truck and brings it back to Pappy. There was a note instead and Mrs. Spruill reads the note. It says that Cowboy and Tally have run off to be married and live up north somewhere. Trot then reveals that he has been painting the house while Tally has been paying for it. Trot then gives him the other two gallons Tally bought, and Luke begins painting instantly. The Spruills then head back home.
