In Germany, Christmas is celebrated by hanging up a wreath made up of fir twigs with 4 candles attached. Each Sunday of advent they light one candle. Booths and stalls are set up, too, but include Christmas decorations and gingerbread men which are only made and eaten at Christmas.
As in many countries, they also hang candies and cookies on the Christmas trees.
Christmas in Germany is called "Weihnachten", and they celebrate with some of the same traditions as we do, but put their own spin on it.
They have Christmas trees, called "Tannenbaum". The trees are decorated with such things like nuts, cookies, tinsel and bright candles.
They also have a celebration on December 6th, and it's called Saint Nikolaus Eve. On that night, German children put a shoe in front of their home's fireplace, so that Saint Nicholas will leave behind goodies.
Santa Claus is called "der Weihnachtsman". He comes on Christmas Eve, so that children and adults generally receive their gifts before going to bed on Christmas Eve. Both the 25th and the 26th of December are holidays in Germany, and most of the rest of Europe for that matter. The 2nd Christmas Day is usually when one visits relatives.
Same time it is everywhere else in the world: the 25th of December
Christmas (Weihnachten) in Germany is on the 25th & 26th of December.
However, the children get their present on the evening of Christmas eve (Heiligabend).
Then there is also St. Nicholas Day (Nikolaustag) on the 6th of December. The children put their (cleaned!) boots or shoes on the doorstep the evening before, and St. Nicholaus will fill it with gifts - if they behaved well.
Sometimes people in Germany start shopping and celebrating before December 1st. On December 6th Germans leave a boot or shoe outside to represent a special day.Instead of calling Some man Santa Clause; Germans call a ghost like wind figure Christkind. Germans also, leave letters by the windowsill for christkind to get them.
Germany has many customs for the Christmas season. The famous Christmas tree is one of them.December first is when the preparations begin and on the sixth is Nickolautag or St.Claus day.You leave a shoe or boot outside the door the night before hoping to find gifts if your good but if your bad all your getting is a rod.
