The Enchanted Wood is a book about three children, Joe, Bessie, and Fanny, who move from the city to the country.

Once they had moved into the house and had settled in, the children couldn't explore their surroundings because their house was a mess and they had to help their mum and dad in the garden and in the house. One day the children mother told them that they could have a day off and have a picnic in the Enchanted Wood. When the children were in the wood they found all sorts of wonderful things like talking bunnies and mushrooms that grew as tall as tables and chairs and on those mushrooms sat small little men having a meeting, and while the children were sitting and watching the amazing things that were happening right before their eyes, Joe notices an ugly, gnome-like man. . . . . . . . Trying to steal tiny brown bag that was lying on the floor next to one of the small men. "Stop thief" Joe yelled. As the thief heard this he started running towards the children and Joe tripped him over, the children chased after him and got the bag when the little cheeky man had climbed a huge old tree and dropped the bag. Once the children finally got the small brown bag in their grip, they gave it back to the gnome looking sort of men and this is how Joe, Bessie and Fanny discover the 'Faraway Tree' . . . . . . . this is just the begin of the three young children's adventures!

Joe, Bessie and Fanny climb the Faraway Tree many of times and make a lot of very helpful, kind friends that live in the trunk of this old, magic tree. The three children and their friends have lots of exiting adventures at the lands of the magic Faraway Tree and many near escapes getting out of the lands at the top of the Faraway Tree.
