The Homestead Strike was the largest labor strike in the late 1800's and was made by angry Irish Union workers who were upset by the Chinese immigrants working for less than Americans. This resulted in the unions losing popularity by being associated with violence.
When the Irish first began coming to America we were considered to be subhuman- less than the English and Dutch immigrants who came before us. Many business even had sign proclaiming "no Irish allowed". We were often referred to as Micks, or Paddy's. Work was hard to find for many Irish, so we took work where we could find it. At the time jobs like Policeman, Firefighter, Soldier were looked upon as menial, and dangerous. The Irish took these jobs and held them with a sense of pride. To this day many Irish children follow in the steps of their fathers and mothers becoming policemen, firefighters and soldiers ... mine included
It is a common stereotype that immigrants work harder and for less money. However, it all depend on individual immigrants, and their professions.
Depends. But if the immigrants are in that country legally they should have the same benefits if not less.
Many immigrants brought their problems to America. They often worked for less wage and took more valueable jobs.
They sometimes come from countries with less resources or countries with less opportunities.
They worked longer and were paid less.
So that the immigrants would do those less skilled but essential jobs that the Britons did not find appealing.
Many Americans have resented immigrants throughout American history because they believed that immigrants were taking jobs by offering to work for less money. The irony of the situation is that many of those people were immigrants or their parents were immigrants at some point.

13% of the US Population are immigrants. If 13% of those voting were immigrants, 1,724,000 voted. I do not know if immigrants are more or less likely vote than most people. Any figure you see will have to be a guess, since immigrants do not have to reveal this fact when they vote.
