The answer to the question is not in The Bible. My personal opinion is it was Arthritis. Paul normally had someone else write his letters and he just signed them, leading me to believe this. But this is my personal belief. Only the Lord and Paul know.

Literally, no. Figuratively speaking, yes.

2 Corinthians 12:7, the scripture in question, says:"a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited." (ESV). Paul had been a proud and haughty Pharisee for most of his life(Acts 23:6/ 26:4/Philippians 3:5), and a very real danger to the Christian congregation(Acts 9:1+2/ Acts 22:4/ 26:11). He needed to learn modesty and humility.

It is believed by many that this 'THORN' was some sort of physical infirmity, possibly relating to Paul's eyes (Galatians 4:13-15 / Galatians 6:11), maybe as a result of his blinding on the road (Acts 9:3-9)when he was first humbled into listening to Jesus. When Paul asked to have this 'thorn' removed, three times (2 Corinthians 12:8+9)God said NO, because it was to serve as a constant reminder of Paul's human limitations....that it was NOT on his OWN limited power, that Paul would succeed, but on God's power, through Christ, which is limitless. Because of this, Paul commented: "When I am weak, then I am strong"(2 Corinthians 12:10 NIV)

What is the correct grammar - Apostle Paul or apostle Paul?

OpinionI would say Apostle Paul wherever I use 'Apostle' as a title, in the same way as I would say Mr Smith, with 'Mr' capitalised. Less frequently, I would write 'apostle' uncapitalised if I did not intend it as a title, for example where 'apostle' is the subject of the sentence, and Paul is addressed. Use capitals to be on the safe side.
