They weren't actually settlers. They were the soldiers and sailors of the disastrous invasion of the Spanish Armada by King Phillip II of Spain in 1588. After being defeated in the English Channel, the remaining Spanish Galleons attempted to flee by going east through the channel, then north, and then turning south once they passed Ireland. They were hit by several storms off the north and west coast of Ireland where thousand were stranded. When it became apparent that they were not going to be rescued they remained in Ireland and became known as the "Black Irish".
Iberians are the people originating from the 'Iberian Peninsula', ( the peninsular comprising Portugal and Spain).
The Irish people are Celtic in origin, indigenous to the island of Ireland.
However, following the defeat of the great Spanish armada assembled to attack England in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, many Spanish ships were swept round the top of Britain and wrecked on the coasts of Ireland.
The surviving Iberian sailors from these wrecks are known to have settled and made a new life where they were wrecked.
