A ship is a ship ... but when you qualify what kind of ship it is, that qualifier is an adjective - a describing word.
No one single person invented the first cruise ship, they evolved over a period of decades, with contributions being made to design changes during this time from dozens of nau…tical engineers and naval architects. Up until late Victorian times, the idea of taking an ocean cruise for fun, or as a holiday, was almost unheard of. People travelled overseas by ship because they HAD to, not out of choice- to emigrate, to visit friends or relatives abroad, to take up new jobs abroad, to get sea air for their health, and suchlike reasons. Although the great mid-19th Century steamers such as Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Great Western, Great Eastern and Great Britain (along with many others) were designed to make the voyage as comfortable for the passengers as possible, the trips were functional and not for leisure. It was only from around the 1890s that the idea of holiday cruising began to arouse public interest, and thenceforth trans-Continental liners began to be designed more with this in mind, becoming more like hotels than their predecessors and incorporating leisure, social and sports facilities on board, as well as superior cabins. But no single person was responsible for this- like the motor car, it just evolved from many different contributors to the phenomenon.
Cruise Ship Entertainment Jobs Almost always synonymous with "cruise staff", these positions are considered most glamorous jobs on the ship and are the most in demand car…eer. Cruise ship entertainment jobs deals with anything relating to passengers entertainment. This may include hosts and hostesses, cruise director jobs and staff, performers, disc jockeys, cruise ship musician, shore excursion staff and swimming instructors. Cruise Ship Deck and Engineering Jobs Responsible for maintaining and running the vessel, this department doesn't usually accept entry-level positions and mostly only experienced merchant marines that include maintenance workers, deckhands, engineers and ship officers who are in charge of passenger safety. It is their task to sail the ship, maintain the ship performance and physical state and keep it in accordance with fleet regulations and international maritime laws. Cruise Ship Service Jobs Jobs on this department are concerned with managing the restaurants, bars and passenger cabins, as well as shipboard retail concessions like souvenir and gift shops. They are the ones who serves food, beverages or any kind of product that can generate them a good amount of tip from the passenger. The ship's treasurer in charge of passenger accounts, currency exchange, ticketing and more, also called the purser, are also included in this category. Cruise Ship Personal Care/Service Jobs Fitness, beauty, spa and medical services are included in this category. This are very important jobs in a cruise ship since most passengers signed up for a cruise to enjoy themselves, relax, be comfortable and pamper themselves and the medical department are to render services in times of medical emergencies like simple cuts and bruises, allergies and being sea sick. Cruise Ship Office Jobs Office positions are generally for employees who works in the main office or branch arranging cruises, managing accounts or performing general office work onshore. Positions like administrative assistants, sales/marketing staff, clerical workers and booking agents are some of the jobs available in this category.
A cruise ship is a very large ship, usually carrying hundreds of passengers, that tours various areas or countries while providing comfortable living arrangements aboard. They… usually have a variety of shops, restaurants, boutiques, and services for the guests. The range of accommodations ranges from inside cabins, to balconies, and to ocean-view deluxe suites. Children are generally provided amusements and entertainment during the day, such as table tennis, games, swimming pools, and movie showings. A staple of cruises are the 24-hour food and drink service, including both buffets and formal dining. When docked at islands or ports of call, many offer excursions to local sites of interest : shopping, tours, and scheduled events.
Cruise lines do not often have ships that are not being used. When the heavy cruise season ends at one place in the world, it is usually just beginning in another. Most s…hips do have a time every few years when they are in what is called "dry dock" when they make minor repairs or renovations. Dry dock can be anywhere in the world, not necessarily in the port of origin, and can last anywhere from a couple of weeks to a year (depending on the extent of damage or how lavish the renovation is). Otherwise, it is very unusual for a cruise ship to sit idle. When passengers leave from one cruise, the next set of passengers is on the boat in a matter of just a few hours.
OMG EVERYTHING! You can go to the buffet, go to a restaurant, stay in your room, socialize, play games in the arcade, swim, go to the gym, if you're docked at land, you can le…ave the ship and explore, and SO much more. Cruise ships treat you like royalty. :)
Some cabins, perhaps, but mostly no. There is an iron and ironing board in the laundry rooms, which are on most decks, near midship.
Well, it depends on the company. Pools with play structures and tubes are quite often included. Shows, buffet dinners, and sometimes gambling is available. Dances, music and l…ots of entertainment is included. And then there are tours at the ports of call.
Most cruise liners have a cruising speed that ranges between 22 and 31 knots. A cruising speed of 26 knots is about 30 miles per hour.
Basically much as any ship, the difference being the passenger accommodation and services necessary. It's still essentially a huge steel fabrication, with a lot of other mater…ials and fittings pertinent to purpose.

It will be a close draw between Royal Caribbean International and Carnival Cruise line. Both are the big players in the Cruising industry as both have 22 ships (if you include… Allure of the Seas). Although they have a very similar cruising concept they offer very different experiences onboard. If you are considering booking any of them I suggest you do lot of research by reading the review because their older ships are so different from the new ones. If you count all cruise ships owned by both companies however, Carnival (who also owns AIDA Cruises, Costa, Cunard, P&O, Holland America, Ibero, Ocean Village, Princess and Seabourn) owns far more ships than Royal Caribbean (who also own Celebrity and Azamara).
It really depends on what you want to do. If you're looking for three days up and three days back, ANY of the premium Cruise lines can do this well. If you really want to see …Alaska, you want to look into what are called "cruise tours". As the name implies, it's a cruise combined with a land based vacation. Of the Cruise Tour Operators, Princess stands out for many reasons, not the least of which would be their "glass topped train" picks you up at the ship, you are not taken by bus to meet the train. They are also the owners/operators of "purpose built" lodges specifically designed to enhance your exploration and view of Alaska. You will find them strategically located throughout National parks and forests. This year, at the Kenai Lodge they introduced "fly fishing" (for salmon) as an activity. You won't be bored. One little note, if you take the northbound cruise, your cash savings will cover three days on land. Most people take the southbound cruise because they would rather do the land tour first and then be pampered on the cruise ship, rather than doing the cruise first.
They provide all basic amenities.
In Large Ships
it is the middle of the ship. not the front part of it (forward or FWD), not the back of it (aft).
