No, one does not. Though it's a Latin term, it is has been adopted into the English language and thus needn't be italicized as one would other non-English language words. In contrast, alma mater's plural, almae matres, should be italicized if one opts for the Latin spelling; however, "alma maters" is also acceptable. I recommend, mainly to avoid seeming pompus or pedantic, eschewing the Latin spelling when writing for unknown readers, many of whom one can expect are unfamiliar with Latin. Writing for an academic audience, one may feel more at ease using more "flowery" language.
