Unless I'm mistaken, all 50 states have laws requiring collision insurance on any age vehicle that you drive on a public roadway. It's the COMPREHENSIVE coverage that is optional. You'll need to check with the State Department of Motor Vehicles where you live to find out the specifics of how much you are required to carry. And unless you own the vehicle frre-and-clear, the dealer or finance company where you purchased it will require you to carry both to protect their assets.

Cut Costs on Auto Insurance?

In order to lower your auto insurance rates, it is essential that you drop any policy that you do not need. Many people think that if they have a car, they absolutely need collision coverage at all times. The truth of the matter is that as long as you do not have a loan on your vehicle, you do not have to carry collision insurance. By getting rid of this type of coverage, you should be able to save yourself hundreds of dollars every year. This is why it sometimes pays to own an older car for yourself to drive in.

Whose insurance pays when a 16 year old totals a friend's car if she had permission and the friend was with her but neither had serious injuries?

What is the least expensive way to place a 16 year old female on an insurance policy with 2 drivers and 4 vehicles?

First of all be honest about which vehicle she will be most likely to drive. Usually the lowest rate is going to be on a vehicle that you don't need Comp and Collision coverage for. Hopefully she qualifies for a good student discount and a drivers training discount.

What are the cheapest cars to insure for a 16 year old girl in Wisconsin with a 3 point 7 GPA?

Different insurance companies use different sources for rating vehicles but generally speaking an American made 4 door sedan is going to be the least expensive. If you are considering getting a vehicle that you don't need collision or comprehensive coverage then the make and model of the vehicle won't matter. The only things that would save money then would be ABS or possibly air bags if you have medical coverage on the auto policy.

Junk It! Is It Time To Cut Down On Auto Coverage ?

Is there ever a good time to cut down on your auto insurance? Maybe. Here are a few points to consider before reducing your auto coverage:The first rule in insurance is that you always want to buy as much liability coverage as you can afford. There is no "price tag" on how much you will get sued for if you are liable for another's injuries. One person might ask for $100,000 and another person might ask for $1,000,000. You want to have as much coverage in place as you can.Property coverage. Tangible property has a value. It's easy to insure because the limit of coverage matches the value of the property. There are two places in the Auto policy that deals with "property coverage". In this case, the "property" is either your vehicle or someone else's vehicle. When it comes to the other person's vehicle, again, you won't know the value of a vehicle you haven't hit yet but it's safe to assume the value based on the area you are in and the most frequent places you travel. Would you say the most expensive vehicle you commonly see is $25,000, $60,000 or $100,000? Whatever you feel that number is can be your limit of insurance to replace someone else's car.Your vehicle. This is where you can think about reducing coverage safely. Comprehensive and collision coverage provides money to repair or replace your car in the event of an accident or other included type of damage.Do you have a loan on the car? If there is a loan on your vehicle, the bank may require you to carry Comp and Collision insurance. The next important consideration is the year of the vehicle. If you have an older car that would be more expensive to repair than replace, you can drop Comp and Collision coverage. If the car is a total loss, keep in mind that the insurance carrier will only pay you the Actual Cash Value of the car they are insuring. If you have a 2000 Honda, you will get enough money to replace a 2000 Honda, not a new 2012 Honda.Generally, vehicles that are less than ten years old are still cost effective enough to repair or replace. In this case, you may still want to carry the physical damage coverage even after there is no loan on the car.In short, if you feel that you want to replace your vehicle with a brand new one after an accident, it might be worth it to you cut down on your Comp and Collision coverage. You will save money now and could even put that savings toward your dream car!
