Good question. Im not expert but was involved with an N. IMO, I don't think they set out to hurt people. Its just their nature. But they know right from wrong and they know they hurt people but they dont care. They just meet people date them for a while are good to u at first then there selfish needs take over and urs don't matter to them. To them they just haven't found the perfect person and u weren't perfect so out you go. The issue whether its delebrate or not is really irrelevant. The fact is the do it over and over. The biggest thing is they don't care. They really could care less about you at all! In there mind its ur fault you didn't live up to their standards. Narccists crave attention and admiration they can NEVER get enough. Ever heard of the 7 year itch? When you've been in a relationship for so long you wonder am I attractive to others and u want attention and validation from someone new? well Ns go thru the 7 yr itch about every 6 months. My ex had a string of exs which should have been a red flag. They get bored with people quickly. My ex acted like she was some idol and liked to feel like u were one of her "groupies" who adolized her. They do or say anything to get u to fall for them. If u do, its ur fault not theirs if u get hurt and don't expect empathy that ur hurting they aren't interested. I don't think its diliberate, they just think no one can match them and they don't get it.
