Yes it does Prednisone is a steroidal anti inflammatory which is used in diseases where there is inflammation. by reducing the inflammation the pain is often also reduced. Prednisone replaces a similar chemical made by the body itself and also has a harmful effect on the lining of the stomach if not taken with food if it is taken regularly the dosage should be tapered of rather then stopped cold turkey to allow the body to build up its natural production of the chemical once again.

∙ 12y agoIt depends on the dosage, an on if the pain you are experiencing is a result of inflammation. In my experience an initial high dose of prednisone helps to get it under control within about 24 hours. The stuff is a hormone though and has all kinds of side effects it is also not an analgesic so if it does not get the inflammation under control i will not kill the pain. If you want immediate pain relief you are better of going to a general analgesic to start with at the same time.
