I think that a better form for the question would be '' Does Claire stay with Professor Layton?'' because shes the one who really leaves. She goes back to the past to die because she supposedly dies in a big explosion but she had a second chance to live and she thought that that wasn't fair. Yeah so....

yes, 10 years ago there was a big explosion involving a time machine, but for a split second, it worked and shot Claire 10 years into the future, into the professors present. but her body was trying to get back to her own time and she couldn't stop it. she died in the explosion. it was all very sad.
