I think he only cares about her, and I highly doubt they'll ever be a couple because his character is based around dogs, and if they ever do get together, they'd more than likely break up, since Akamauru would be jealous and Akamauru's Kiba best friend, Kiba worries about Hinata and I've never seen him show any emotion besides caring for her.
