Yes it means that is is real. FAS means "fused alloy silver" I had a strand that I thought was costume, so i took it to a jewler. I thought it said '"f.a.g"', which I thought really odd. It turns out the strand was 925 sterling silver that had actual diamonds and was worth 600 to $800(U.S.)!

Is 925 silver fas jewelry worth the same as 925 silver?

"925 silver fas jewelry" refers to jewelry that is labeled as "925 silver" but may not necessarily meet the same quality standards as genuine 925 sterling silver. "Fas" stands for "Fashion" or "Fashionable," suggesting that the jewelry is designed to be trendy or fashionable rather than being made of high-quality sterling silver. It's important to note that genuine 925 sterling silver is composed of 92.5% pure silver and is considered a standard for quality silver jewelry. The remaining 7.5% is typically made up of other metals, such as copper, to enhance durability. Genuine sterling silver jewelry should be stamped or labeled as "925" to indicate its silver content. However, with "925 silver fas jewelry," there may be variations in the actual silver content or the quality of the materials used. It's possible that these pieces may contain a lower silver content or use lower-grade materials, which can affect their overall value and durability. When purchasing silver jewelry, especially if it's labeled as "925 silver fas," it's advisable to exercise caution and be aware of potential differences in quality. It's essential to buy from reputable sellers or brands that provide accurate information about the materials used in their jewelry. This can help ensure that you are getting genuine 925 sterling silver and not a lower-quality alternative. What is 925 fas silver?

FAS stands for Fused Alloy Silver, which means the item has 925 parts of pure silver mixed with 75 parts of something else, such as copper. So 935 would be a finer grade (more parts of silver) than a 925. To explain further, the 925 means that the item is 92.5% silver and 7.5% something else. Fine silver can be too soft for many projects so it is common to fuse it with copper for added strength.

Why sulfuric acid is added in preparing FAS Solution?

Adding acid is "belt and braces" - iron II is readily oxidised to iron III but this is greatly reduced in the prescence of the ammonium ion which is slightly acidic. Adding more acid merely futher reduces the tendancy for oxidation of the iron II.

How would you test for chlorine?

You'll need a test kit or test strips. OTO drops (turn yellow) are available cheaply at places like Walmart, and provides a reliable and fairly easy to read test. Test strips use a chemical, syringaldazine, that turns bluish. This is also a reliable test for chlorine, but is not quite as easy to read. Also, the other parts of pool test strips, especially the alkalinity and stabilizer pads are NOT reliable. DPD tablets turn pink in the presence of chlorine. They are pretty easy to read, and very reliable for levels of chlorine less than 10 ppm. Above 10, they can 'bleach' out, and read zero, even though the chlorine is very high. DPD-FAS turns pink when chlorine is tested, and then back to clear as the FAS is drop-counted it. It is the most reliable and accurate method, but also more expensive and 'fiddly'. For starters, I'd recommend OTO drops. Pool store types will tell you that OTO doesn't distinguish "Free" and "Total" chlorine, which is true. But, unless you add a bunch of cheap algicide, or something like "Yellow Out", OR let your chlorine levels yo-yo around . . . it doesn't matter on outdoor pools. If you do have "Total chlorine" or, really, "Combined chlorine", simply maintaining a good constant chlorine level for several days will make it 'go away', at least on outdoor pools.
