A poem is any sort of writing that is not prose. Prose writing contains no metrical structure, and poetry almost always has some sort of meter or rhythm. There are many different types of poetry.
Examples of Imagery Poetry
***Pot of gold***
I'm flying higher and faster now
There's something I must find
I must hurry before I'm discovered
I've come close so many times
If only I could be clever enough
To smuggle the bounty to the other side
How many days I'd smile
***Toss and Turn***
I couldn't take my eyes of it, the way the sun reflected of the grass,
like a mysterious painting everything had its place.
The wind gently carried a mist across the field,
as it approached a hill it started to glow.
As I stood there watching, I thought heard something strange.
It was difficult to make out, but it sounded like crying.
I begin to walk through a dark forest and above the sound of strange birds.
Through the fog I see a stream, though not possible,
it appears to be hurt and a color of which I've never seen.
I reach a field where the corns short and brown.
I'm running now.
I finally see the shore.
The fish aren't moving, but floating aimlessly on the waves.
I want to wake up, to know it was a dream. I have to believe there's still time.
***Unicorn***
I watched her go into valley
Once I followed
I saw many enchantments
My promise not to reveal
I know why she smiles
It is the hidden beauty
Seen through faultless eyes
Examples of Lyric Poetry
***Peace***
If you listen really close, you can hear them
Like faint whispers they comfort you
On a breezy autumn day you're never alone
***Inevitable***
No one dared look up. The color of the rain brought us all to tears
We entered a new era, one which would have to be faced without our
Heart
Examples of Narrative Poetry
***Insomnia***
All he wanted now was to escape the silence
Knowingly embrace our deepest regret
To settle for mediocrity
How easy it is for us to justify
How sweet it must be not to be a coward
***Burden**
Walking so I don't sleep
Repelling the whispers of finality
Imprinting one's life
before memories become irrelevant
An artist's life is bitter sweet
***If Only***
I could taste the snow
Pulling over next to the slope
I remembered my red sled
My whole world played out going down a hill
Nothing more complicated then being a child
I want that again to be weightless
To count the minutes to wake
To bathe in youth and be protected
Examples of Haiku Poetry
***Mother earth***
The day is closing
Many lands I want to see
The Moon grants my quest
***Redemption***
Shivering and pale
Bared down to humility
I ask for purpose
Examples of Japanese Haiku Poetry
***Cycle***
Faint breath
Review of life
Good-by
***Irish Dream***
Wet hill
Lucky rainbow
Treasure
Example of Romantic Poetry
***Once upon a Love***
Flickers of happiness dance across the sky.
I watch as they grow ever so bright, then disappear.
Once, what seems so long ago, I was gallant enough to
believe I could capture one.
Eyes strained in darkness. Unveering, anxious.
The moment of consumption.
In all of my life, I've wondered if there could be such a love.
My weakness grows under the weight of time.
To touch her hair.
To hold her hand.
To share time.
I'd recant all measurable substance.
Remaining vigilant.
Remembering your world, even as my own closes in.
We are seeds, and will again grow anew.
Examples of Dark Poetry
***Lost***
I was not ready for the darkness
Drifting out towards a black sea
My calls for safety fall to deaf winds
The warmth of the familiar can no longer be felt
I ache for a beacon
The radiance I once knew
It is a cold and frightful world
May I wake and be loved
***Escape***
Racing without conscious
Resting only to savor a new life
Freedom has no compromise
*** A planet called Earth***
The more I looked into the painting
The more enthralled I became
Was there really place of such enchantment
Was it a dream and if it was
Can I sleep and never be woken
***Last Hope***
Waves of memories swarm my mind
The vividness of faces thought forgotten
Responsibility out-way fear
Purity of purpose
Facing the task resisting despair
Return to the restful waters
But first I must fight
Example of Dramatic Poetry in the form of a Rant
***Just Cows grazing in Corporate Fields***
One day you'll learn you're existence is based on the lie of manufactured desire
We've been conditioned to have contempt for non-perishable consumption
What if thrift stores became mega-stores
What if we bartered and shared what we want and no longer need
What if we made of foods from scratch
Bought food straight from the farmer and rancher
Cut our own hair produce alcohol for our cars
What if we formed our own banks
Exchange television for our home-grown entertainment
Printed our own money
Ran our companies by committees
Decide among ourselves who we shall have war
Would it last or would we again enslave ourselves
For me it doesn't matter It would be enough to see them squirm
An Autumn
In autumn breeze,
There are perfect memories-
Hidden and silent.
