When did the apatosaurus went extinct?

User Avatar

Asked by Rinor1925

Truth be told, there is ONLY one known specimen of Elasmosaurus platyurus.... the type specimen found by Turner in 1867 and described by Cope (see Carpenter, 1999), so it is difficult to estimate when the species died out. It seems likely, however, that E. platyurus would have been around for several million years about 80 million years ago and then been replaced by later occurring species of elasmosaurs....

If the question is when did elasmosaurs go extinct, then the answer is about the same time as the dinosaurs, about 65 million years ago.

What adaptations do apatosaurus have?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Apatosaurus was a brilliant dinosaur from the Jrassic, 150 milliion years ago. It was discovered by the famous paleontologist Othneil Charles Marsh and its name means deceptive lizard. It was herbivorous and 70-90 feet long. It is thought that it consumed gastroliths, or stomach stones, to help it digest the tough plant matter it consumed. One of the most remarkable theories in my opinion is the presence of a claw on its front limbs. It seems to me it wouldn't be able to use the claw very well though, seeing as it moved on four legs.

How did the brontosaurus die?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A massive meteore hit the earth to cause the extinction of all the dinosaurs including tyrannosaurus rex. No one has proven anything, but the meterite theory has pretty much been cancelled out of the plausibly theories. It is more likely that they evolved and formed birds or that the weather change caused them to die. Since someone redirected the question "How much does a Tyrannosaurus weigh" to this question, I will answer it here: Up to 6.8 metric tons (7.5 short tons).
