I assume you have been asked this in school, the answer is the Dutch TV programme franchised as Big Brother, the concept of Big Brother occured in his 1948 book of the future that is titled: 1984. Big Brother is of a closely observed society, thought police, based on what he had observed of communism in Russia, he had had left leanings but realised the evils of the Communist system.
