NASA actually has several Mission Control Centers, though the main MCC, and the one most people are familiar with, is the Manned Flight Center (MCC-H) at Johnson Space Center in Houston, which directs all Manned Flight activities (e.g., Shuttle, International Space Station, etc.) Up until the mission clock starts advancing, Kennedy Space Center Launch Control is in charge of the mission; after the countdown ends and the mission begins, control switches to MCC at JSC.
Since MCC-H is in a hurricane sensitive zone, there are backup MCC facilities at Kennedy Space Center at MCC in Moscow for ISS operations.
There are actually several Flight Control rooms in the MCC building - each is manned by a dozen up to 20 controllers.
NASA has several control centers in the United States. Houston, Texas is one of the main cities that has a NASA Control Center. There is also a NASA control center in Cape Kennedy, Florida. Both Cape Kennedy and Houston have space museums that are a big tourist attraction in their areas.
No Mercury 1 was not the first NASA mission, though the the Mercury project was NASA's first project, the first mission in the Mercury project and therefore the first NASA mission was Mercury-Big Joe launched on September 9, 1959.
Sorry to say but NASA is not a planet! NASA is an organization that studies the planets!
The Apollo 13 was a big set back to both N.A.S.A as well us the U.S.A . the mission failed due to to a explosion in the spacecraft. Amd time and money was lost to rectify it.
NASA is a very big organisation it also have several observatories which monitor the stars and planets.
