Depends on how it is mixed. If it is (for example) oil and water you can seperate it using a seperating funnel. If water and sand then filtration. If water and salt then evaporation (or you can use distillation if you need both the water and the salt...) If water and something like ethanol then you can use fractional distillation.

Or is this not what you mean when you said seperating mixtures by physical means?
