How can you find an art scholarship when they have tried all the online listings?

The best place to start is your high school. Talk to your guidance counselor to see what kinds of scholarships and awards are available. Typically they have files on hand or a bulletin board with recent flyers they've received. Check with your art teacher, too. He or she might be a member of a professional organization that has scholarship opportunities for art students. Most university art departments also offer scholarships to students attending their schools, either directly through the school or through a business. Here are additional recommendations from other Contributors: * When I was in high school, I went to the main office and the secretary showed me to a huge file cabinet full of all sorts of scholarship applications for tons of different categories. Otherwise, I would contact whatever school or schools you are hoping to attend, and ask them directly about scholarships. When I started out as a music major, I contacted the school I wanted to go to and set up a time to meet the faculty and audition, and they ended up offering to pay for my entire tuition. Also, you might be able to try calling local art institutes and they might be able to tell you of local scholarships or possibly art competitions that could award money. * Try calling or writing the school, for example, contact the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute and ask someone there about scholarships. Not only are scholarships available but you may want to check out grants as well. Many public libraries have sections that have countless books with updated information on grants and scholarships that are available to the public. Some have some strange requirements,( ie. you must be the fourth child of a Scottish land owner{joking but not that far fetched}, or be the child of a member of various clubs or organizations that sponsor the grant), but looking through the books can be a lot of fun as well. Also, check with the various scholastic magazines. The financial aid department of your selected college also can be a wellspring of information on available grants and scholarships on your chosen field of interest. Word of mouth is also a good resource. Try posting on the bulletin boards in art departments at the schools in which you are interested, asking other students for help.
