How can you find out if you owe any stores money from past bounced checks?
The IRS are fairly prompt with cashing checks. The IRS cashes checks for money owed to them within a week and most of the time it is within three days.
The bank closed my checking account for excessive returned checks in the past year. They returned excess money to me after freezing the account and closing it. No money is owed. Can they report?
Yes, the bank can report this to ChexSystems. They will show that they had to close your account. Hopefully they will not put account abuse or fraud on your account beca…use this will make it hard to open a new bank account. I recommend contacting them and asking them not to report you to ChexSystems, and get something in writing saying that your account is paid off. That way, if they report you, you can show you have paid it off, and a bank might open an account for you if they happen to still report you and you can show proof it's paid off.

If you need to know now just phone the bank you deal with, identify yourself and they will give you the information. Usually when one has a bounced check you should have a co…py of it mailed out to you with NSF (Not Sufficient Funds). You also should be getting a bank statement and you should really go over these every month and be sure there are no mistakes. If you are separated from your ex, shut-down your joint account and get the teller at the bank to give you your own account. Never leave funds in your account with an ex's signature on it so it's joint! They can clean your account out. Good luck Marcy You can easily check your bank book, bank statements, by phone, online, or in person (teller). A bounced check is easily identified by an NSF fee. Check your bank services price list for details.
A checked is considered bounced when there are insufficient funds in your account to pay for that cheque. Lets say you issued a cheque of $1000 to your friend but your… bank account has only $500 then that cheque would bounch.

Answer I don't believe so. They will make sure they get paid by garnishing your wages though. Hope this helps a little. Answer The IRS can issue a Notice of… Levy to your bank. It doesn't "freeze" your bank accounts, per se. What it does is require the bank to turn over any money that is in your bank account at the moment the Notice of Levy is received. Any money you deposit after the Notice of Levy is received remains yours, the IRS only gets what was there when the bank got the notice. Banks are required to hold that money aside for 21 days, and then turn it over to the IRS. This means that you have a 21 day window to convince the IRS to release the levy, and if you can get them to do that the bank will return the money to your account. After the 21st day the bank sends the money to the IRS -- at that point it is almost impossible to get your money back, so act quickly!
